Samvene – The Bagel Cafe

I have always heard or read about bagels on social media but never really had an idea nor was active enough to look up for it.

Recently a new cafe called Samvene- The Bagel Cafe opened close to my house. By this time I was really curious to know the taste and the looks of it. I couldn’t wait anymore and so I made some time and visited this place.

Samvene- The Bagel Cafe is located in Malad, at the Mith Chowki junction. This place looks extremely alluring and petite from outside as well as from the inside. It is divided into two sections. The ground floor being very casual and formal whilst the top floor being very classy along with a bar and live screening. It also provides a view of the road which frankly isn’t very pleasing because of the metro construction but the background music does compensate for it. In short, it is perfectly soulful for people who love the old school vintage quirky essence with music, perfect to cut you away from the busy world right outside.

Okay, so let’s get started with the dishes! With not a huge fancy menu, this place has limited options but every item is done to perfection. Since it was my first time to try a bagel, I chose their signature bagels to be on the safer side. I ordered a Harvest Chicken bagel. Apparently, a bagel is round bread with a hole in the middle just like a doughnut. You can also select the type of bread you prefer. They offer a multigrain and high fibre bread. I was pretty excited to eat a bagel. On its arrival, I just went like “Oh, it is just like a burger!” As soon as I grabbed a bite, I enjoyed each and every part of it. Although, there is no much of a difference between a bagel and a sandwich/burger. It has the same stuffing of veggies and sauces. But it was mouthwatering and delightful. As named, The Bagel Cafe, this cafe does justice to its bagels right from its presentation to its taste. Later, I ordered a classic sizzling brownie which brought a flawless end to my day.

Samvene is a perfect cafe with pastel interiors and fancy bar but the only drawback I would like to mention is that their service is very slow. Although the staff is very friendly and helpful. One must surely hit up this place and try their bagels.

They do not have any parking facility so you may probably want to avail of public transportation.

This bagel cafe costed me an approx of ₹500-600 without alcohol. I would rate this 3.5 on 5. I found this cafe very budget friendly with a dainty ambiance. Worth dropping by.

Thank you!

Let’s Socialise!

Socialisation is the only process through which you interact with the society. Hence, socials have opened 10 outlets in Mumbai. In this world of technology, I guess it’s good that we socialise a little.

Out of the 10 social outlets I’ve visited three. All the outlets have the same theme- the jailer or prison theme with hashtags naming the items in Hindi. They serve in jailer plates (or small thaalis). The concept of having the menu rolled up like a newspaper along with roll of tissues like toilet paper, makes it very aesthetic. This idea and ambience makes Socials very distinct and attractive to the people. The ten different socials are: Colaba Socials, Palladium Socials, Todi Mill Socials, Carter Road Socials, Capital Socials (BKC), Vikhroli Socials, Khar Socials, Versova Socials, Fun Republic Socials and Goregaon Socials.

I ordered a Chilli Chicken Black Pepper China box, which consisted of options like rice or noodles. I selected noodles. It comes in a box with plenty of noodles, gravy and chicken pieces. It is very delicious and has the authentic taste of Chinese in it. The next thing I ordered was Grilled Chicken Peri Peri sizzler. This sizzler also serves either rice or noodles. For this, I chose rice over noodles. This sizzler is served in a comparatively small triangular dish with rice and two pieces of juicy chicken breasts, sautéed veggies were served along with the sizzler. I personally didn’t like this sizzler as much as I usually like the other sizzlers. I was disappointed with the quantity keeping in mind that it’s a sizzler. Another dish I ordered was Butter Chicken biryani. The quantity of this biryani was good but the taste wasn’t quite great. It had dry fruits, which is a big no for me. But if you guys like dry fruits, then I’m sure you are going to love it. It is also served with curd and fryums in a small plate. The last dish, my all time favourite – Pastaaa, Penne in curried vegetables with chicken add ons. It was served in a steel tiffin and the quantity was mediocre. I was glad with the taste of this pasta.

Honestly, it’s a good place to hang out with friends and to chill and munch on something along with a drink. I wouldn’t suggest this place for lunch or dinner because of its quantity. One must definitely visit socials for its ambience, look and feel.

Socials have a friendly and helpful staff. It costed me an approx amount of ₹1,400 for two, inclusive of alcohol. Socials is an amazing mood setter with amazing songs being played to lighten up your day!

Thank you!

Persia-e-Darbar

Birthdays are the best, especially if it is one of your family member’s or your friend’s. You know why, right? Coz Free Food!!! Who doesn’t love free food? It was my brother’s birthday and he treated us at one of his favourites, which is now become one of my favourites too. Thanks to him!

Persia Darbar, located in Jogeshwari, serves some really delicious Indian and Mughlai dishes. For starters we ordered ‘Murgh Kalimiri’. It is cooked in some delicious cheesy marinade which brings out mouthwatering flavours and gives out a creamy texture after it is cooked. It is very filling and a treat to the taste buds.

For main course,we thought of trying something new, so ordered the Raan biryani. It was served in a huge round ‘thaali’ with salad used as garnish. It had some really big and juicy mutton pieces. We were six of us yet we had leftovers. Yes, that is the quantity! It was delectable and the masala in it was so appetising that perhaps it would be one of the best Raan biryanis I’ve ever had. I would totally recommend this place because the food here is a treat!

Raan Biryani

No matter how full you are, there’s always a little place for desserts. So we ordered caramel and pudding which gave a perfect end to an awesome night.

Galeecha

The ambience is not very fancy, but quite a decent one for family dining. The seating here is very low, so when you sit, you have to fold your legs which gives you a feeling of comfort. They call this place the ‘Galeecha’. They have the table seating arrangement too in the top section. It is also a good place if you don’t want to visit any mainstream restaurant and in mood for some comfort and Indian food. So you can choose between the table seating and the Galeecha. According to Zomato, the approximate cost is ₹800 for two. I personally would like to give 3 stars out of 5 for the amazing food, service and Arabian theme ambience

Thank you!

Bagdad’s Khaana

I always end up visiting new cafes and restaurants in town for a reason. Few months back, one of my friends recommended BAGDADI. I was skeptical of visiting the place but he had requested me to. So it was on Christmas I reached this place where the food is so delicious that you won’t give a damn about the ambience.

Bagdadi is located in Colaba, behind the Taj Mahal palace, Mumbai. It serves a variety in Indian and Mughlai dishes. I was startled to know that this place is rated as one of the best restaurants in town. Well, NO DOUBT IT IS!

So I ordered chicken boti masala and chicken kadha masala with butter roti because butter just completes everything! I was amazed on seeing the size of the butter roti. It was as big as the plate it was served in and honestly I couldn’t finish it. The quantity of both the dishes are easily sufficient for two. Just one of the dish and you are done for the day.

The ambience is decent and not very fancy. They have sharing table system because of the obvious huge crowd. Their service is good and also it’s quite easy on your pocket. The staff is friendly as well. It’ll cost approximately ₹400 for two. Good food and cheap is what most of us look out for. Do visit this place if you are longing for authentic Indian and Mughlai food. I would rate this place 4/5.

Thank you! And I hope you love it and visit this place.

Count on CANTO

In Mumbai, you’ll find very few cafés with astounding ambience, food, and service within your budget. You are in for a treat if you find one. Well I found one and I’m obviously going to recommend this café, because I personally visited this place twice in the same week. Yes! It is that amazing. Do you want to know more about this café? Then go ahead and read the article further. Trust me, you all will love this place.

A petite place located at Hughes Road, Opera House, Charni Road, Mumbai; you’ll find CANTO Cafe and Bar. As you enter, you’ll see the beautiful interiors decorated with amazing lightings, paintings and flower pots. On your left, is the bar section with high table seating and on the right you’ll have cushion tables for 4-6. There is a private dining area on the first floor of the place.

The ambience is very sophisticated as you will see in the pictures below. It’ll make you feel very comfortable and cozy. It will make you want to visit this place every now and then.

I’m sure you are longing to read about the food now, so let’s get started. I ordered two pizzas viz ‘barbecue chicken pizza’ and ‘harissa chicken pizza’. They not only looked delicious but tasted delicious as well. It came with thin crust and also was served with mustard sauce which was remarkable. The mustard sauce was cherry on the cake or if I can say ‘ Cherry on the Pizza’. It was quite filling and sufficient for two.

I wasn’t done yet. So I ordered ‘Grilled Chicken’ and the classic ‘Pesto Pasta’ which can never go wrong. As soon as I took a bite from the Grilled chicken, I fell in love. It was a steak of one breast piece and a leg piece which was marinated so well with brown sauce and served with the same. It had some amazing flavours in it. It was extraordinary! It was also served with sautéed vegetables and mash potatoes because, what is steak without them? This dish is more than sufficient for two. It’s heavy and juicy. Make sure you try this whenever you visit Canto.

Pesto pasta is one of my favourite pastas and there aren’t many cafes who make it right. I was extremely overjoyed when I ate it from Canto because it was flawless . It was cheesy and the quantity was also perfect. What more do you need? The cost is ₹1300 for two although it costed me a little more because of the number of dishes I ordered.

The service here is very friendly and helpful. This café will not leave you without making sure you are happy and satisfied.

Thank you! I hope you love it.

Goose on Gridiron

The recent trend shows that the aesthetic ambience at cafés and restaurants is taken into consideration more than food at times. Quite a number of times that’s me too. The better the ambience the more comfortable you can be and can enjoy your food and drinks.

The Goose and Gridiron is one of them. It is located on Abdul Rehman street, opposite Sterling cinema, Fort, Mumbai.

Let’s talk a little more about the ambience of this place. The Goose and Gridiron has an amazing interior with various poster frames on the wall, alongside there’s a petite bar. It’s very calm and sophisticated. They have a thematic outdoor seating plan with garden being the theme. They have very pretty lanterns and creepers hanging around which gives you a very serene and aesthetic vibes. It’s also very eye catching.

Moving on to the food of this place . I ordered penne with broccoli and mushroom in paprika cream sauce. The pasta amazingly blended with the sauce and it was presented in a huge dish with two slices of untoasted bread. It was one of the best pasta I’ve ever had. It’s a must try. Since I’m a hog, I ordered another dish from the main course which was egg fried rice with Hunan chicken sauce. This too was very scrumptious , stomach filling and sufficient for two. On the contrary, I was disappointed with the quantity of the pasta, but the taste compensated for it.

Overall it costed me almost ₹800-1000. The place is honestly very cozy and probably perfect for a first date as well!

What men ‘BURGER!’

Apparently for some reason, whenever I’m hungry I always end up eating a burger. These days, burgers are no more about a single chicken or veg patty sliced between two slices of bread but instead, people love eating two or more patties sliced between two slices of bread and with various sauces oozing out. That’s what Howra and Jimis are giving us.

In Mumbai, two of my favourite burger joints are JIMIS BURGER AND HOWRA. I genuinely can’t decide on which one is better. For me, both are equally appetizing and finger licking.

Jimis Burger serves burgers which literally break one’s jaw and so they have named it Jawbreakers. They have a variety in their Jawbreakers. The Jawbreakers are built with three patties (of your choice of meat), cheese slices, fried eggs and of course the sauces. So if you guys are in to breaking your jaws, do visit Jimis Burgers. You can find them in Malad and Andheri. They have some tasty side dishes as well. I would recommend to try the mozzarella cheese sticks and the spiced french fries. Burgers with fries can never go wrong, right? The mozzarella sticks are filling and the cheese melts in your mouth immediately. The ambiance is very chilled and with amazing background music. They also have outdoor seating with lightings above. To top it off, they have quite a friendly staff. And all of this is approximately for ₹700 for two.

Howra Burger is located in Lower Parel, Bandra and Malad. It is known for its humongous burgers. One of them is named the GODFATHER. It consists of 4 chicken/beef/veg patties set up like a tower between two burger bun with caramelized onions, cheese slices, onion rings and sauces overflowing. Yes!! It is exactly like what you are imagining. In addition, I would like to recommend the ‘barbecue chicken wings’. The wings are spicy, saucy and cheesy as well. One will definitely end up licking their fingers clean. Howra’s ambiance is modest  with a small and cute seating area. It’ll cost you ₹600 for two and trust me it’s worth it. The one in Bandra, along with the burgers, serves you a view of the sea. Isn’t it amazing!?

In the end no matter what, all burgers are burgers and they are the best thing in the world.

Thank you!

Joey’s Special

I’m sure the die hard fans of F.R.I.E.N.D.S got the reference of this title. Well for the ones who have no idea, here I go. A character named Joey in the series F.R.I.E.N.D.S played by Matt LeBlanc loves pizzas way too much. Whenever he orders pizzas for himself he calls it “Joey’s Special!”, hence the title. And therefore, this is my segue to my first blog on Joey’s Pizza.

Joey’s Pizza by far serves the best pizza in town and I’m sure there’ll be many who will agree with me. Because come on!, who doesn’t like pizza with overflowing toppings and cheese melting in your mouth?! Well Joey’s Pizza is the perfect place if you are looking out for the same. Zomato gives Joey’s Pizza a 4.5/5 . Well ,I’m sure you can now take a guess how good their pizzas are.

Coming to its ambience it is not very fancy but it is perfect for friends to hang out and grab on a pizza. It’s small and tidy and they also have free home delivery services. They have two joints one which is in Malad and the other one in Andheri.

My favourite and the one I order the most is the Butter Chicken Pizza. I know you all might be having various questions coming up in your mind but friends you must definitely try this without fail. It’s one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had in Mumbai . At Joey’s you can also combine two types of pizzas and can also select the type of base you prefer.

Another favourite is Chicken Tornado. The flavours in this pizza are perfect and have the right amount of spice in it. So all the spicy lovers out there , this is your pizza. It will satisfy your taste buds perfectly.

Joey’s is my go to pizza joint and will never change. It’s pocket friendly , not very costly just the right amount. It costs ₹800 for two. Joey’s is always my first suggestion when it comes to pizzas. It isn’t a disappointment.

I hope you guys try it and hoping this blog helped you in someway.

Thank you!
